Replace service?

Thanks to this last post I have a working textSearchProvider in my app. it's great.

On replace I would like to make an API call to my backend. ATM vscode opens all the files, fetches the content and applies the edit without saving.

Is there a way/example how to hook in to the replace call and just make my api changes and not open up ever file?

Fetching the file is probably mandatory as it's used to display the changes in the interface. I'm wondering what is your exact use-case 🤔

I am using vscode as a frontend to large git projects on the backend. So for most of what vscode would do locally I want to replace with backend calls. This has worked for the textSearchProvider as a user can have no local files but I can display search results for files on the backend.

If a user tried to "replaceAll" across 10k files I don't want to download those 10k files. I would like to just make a BE call and update them on the server.

At the very least in vscode desktop if I do a "reaplceAll" it does not ope up all the files. I just get a modal telling me I will update X number of files.

Ok, I'm not familiar with that api though. Are all the informations required to display the change in the interface returned from textSearchProvider already? do you have the stack trace of the call to the filesystem?

at this point I only know the vscode.workspace.registerTextSearchProvider api. and when it comes to how replace works I'm still trying to figure out what to know / how it works and what the options are.
