QWERTY keyboards were not created to phones but 2-hand 10-finger typing. There are better layouts/keyboard innovations more suitable for phone usage.
Describe the solution you'd like
Create a hexagonal keyboard layout such as the Typewise Offline keyboard app. It has slowed development, and sadly no such innovative features as in LeanType, but it's layout is 1000 miles better typing UX on phone. It takes ~2 days to adapt, then there is no going back to the "regular" layout.
Use case
Hexagonal layout provides more space for typing, less typos, higher speed.
Describe alternatives you've considered (if any)
- I looked at KeyBee as well, but it's optimized for one-hand typing and offers worse slide gestures as Typewise, while I'd like to keep the 2-thumb typing.
- Considered implementing a new app with Claude Code, but it's a bigger adventure, no Android app dev experience, easier to extend an OSS keyboard which has great foundation and traction.
App version
New release.
