Enable Document Provider for Android

Motivation

Last update was in February of 2024, the existing bug is open, and the issue locked and doesn't allow further comments.

I just bought Cryptomator for Android a few days ago, and was surprised this was not an option. I'm willing to wait, but I'd like to know the progress. It's tagged for 1.11, but we're up to 1.12 and it's still not there.

I think this really is something that many would like very much. As it stands, it is only possible to open one file at a time, limiting the usefulness of Cryptomator on Android.

This is a dealbreaker for me too. The original issue was opened nine years ago, so I'm not holding my breath :/
On the other way I understand no one is entitled to the basic functionality in the £29.90 app and this thread is rather counterproductive, but I think it's good for visibility (the issue is still unsolved and still important).

To the others impacted by the lack of this feature - please 👍 or ❤️ the first post instead of commenting ;)

Thanks for acknowledging this. Part of the frustration comes that some of us (me included), have paid for the android app in the hopes that it would fund further development of the app.

Currently, I'm not pulling the trigger on actually moving all my files to cryptomator, or recommending others use/pay for the android app, specifically because the Android app is almost unusable without Document Provider.

Really hoping this core feature can be prioritised for development, given how we're creeping up on measuring how long we've been waiting for it in decades.
