Ripes on M3 iMac and M4 macair

I've had a baptism of fire trying to get Ripes running on Macs . So much so, even chatgpt is struggling to get it going. I've discovered that Ripes needs to be in the Applications folder with a few tweeks suggested bt AI. And saving a file is prevented as it appears to be a read only system. ChatGPT tells me there should be error logs in Ripes, but I can't find them and, keyboard shortcuts for compiling and running appear not to do anything.

Dropping source code into the edit window is fraught with invisible control codes messing up the execution of the code, although strangely the supplied examples inside Ripes work fine. I don't see mention of that anywhere?

As someone who has played with assembly language in the past , trying out for the first time an ARM assembler, this is so frustrating.

Is there a newbies group for Ripes?
