NASA reports Orion exited the Moon’s sphere of influence at ~41 072 miles from the lunar surface (1:25 p.m. EDT), beginning the free-return coast back to Earth after the lunar flyby. Orion reached ~252 756 miles from Earth, surpassing the Apollo 13 distance record. -
