Summer 2025 – Present
The Vermont Rural Water Association (VRWA) Mutual Aid Map is a simple mapping tool designed to support rural water systems during emergencies. The map helps identify and locate critical mutual aid resources such as:
- Portable water pumps
- Mobile treatment systems
- Backup generators
- Other deployable assets
By making these resources visible and easily accessible, the map enables quick response and collaboration between rural water systems across Vermont.
Water systems in rural areas often face challenges during emergencies like floods, equipment failures, or power outages. This project provides a shared, community-based map of available equipment and aid, allowing systems to:
- Locate the nearest available resources
- Request or offer mutual aid quickly
- Improve preparedness and resilience
- Interactive map of mutual aid assets
- Categorization of equipment types (pumps, generators, treatment units, etc.)
- Easy-to-update database of available resources
- Built to be simple, lightweight, and accessible
