I tested the version below, 6.0.5 by adding the test defined the in the fixing commit provided and it passed without any changes to the code.
Also, the poc fails even on the "fixed" version of tar. not sure what it does..

Thank you for your interest in improving this advisory. It looks like path-reservations.js was refactored in 7.0.0, which is likely why the test fails. However, the vulnerable code appears to be present in earlier version, just in a different location.

Old versions are not supported, and reported vulnerabilities in old eversions are ignored and not verified, so it is safest to assume that old versions of node-tar contain every known security vulnerability, and many that are not known. Please stay up to date.
